Colorado Rabbit Care Initiative

Affordable Care. Healthier Rabbits. Stronger Communities.

The Colorado Rabbit Care Initiative is a community-supported program of Rocky Mountain House Rabbit Rescue created to make essential veterinary care more accessible and affordable for domestic rabbits throughout Colorado.

Through partnerships with veterinary professionals, donors, and community supporters, the initiative helps reduce the cost of preventive services such as spay/neuter procedures and RHDV vaccinations. Our goal is to ensure that financial hardship does not prevent Colorado families from protecting the health and well-being of their rabbits.

Why This Program Matters

Access to knowledgeable rabbit veterinary care can be limited and expensive. Many rabbit owners want to provide responsible preventive care but may struggle with the full cost of specialized veterinary services.

Spaying, neutering, and vaccination are important parts of responsible rabbit care:

  • Spaying and neutering help prevent accidental litters, reduce the number of rabbits entering shelters and rescues, and may reduce certain reproductive cancers and hormone-related behaviors.

  • RHDV vaccination helps protect rabbits from a highly contagious and often fatal disease that can affect both domestic and wild rabbits.

  • Preventive veterinary care allows health concerns to be identified earlier, before they become more serious and costly.

  • Affordable services help families keep their rabbits healthy and safely in their homes while easing pressure on shelters and rescues.

  • By improving access to these services, we can create healthier lives for rabbits, support the people who love them, and reduce preventable suffering throughout our community.
